…To increase solidarity between Catholic parishioners and CCHD funded groups, or other community-controlled, self-help organizations, that are working to build up their communities and improve the lives of their members.

A partnership between national and diocesan offices

Format for the one-day training.
Some matching funds for local training event costs.
Economics trainer.
Catholic social teaching presenter.
Templates for all promotional materials and for the budget formulation.
Ongoing support from the national office for the seminar and action beyond the training.

A team leader who will coordinate the seminar.
At least 100 participants from parishes, diocesan offices, and CCHD-funded groups, etc.
Goals for the seminar that fit with the diocesan agenda and that include activities and action for follow up to the seminar.
Presenters from community-controlled, self-help groups--priority placed on CCHD-funded groups--for afternoon breakout sessions.

Information at a glance…

Most often the seminar is held from 9 am to 4 pm on a Saturday and usually looks like the following.

Morning:
Registration, welcome, introductions
Opening prayer
Overview, training objectives
The two national presenters, one on Catholic Social Teaching and the Economy and one on The Changing Economy, work together to highlight the connection between Catholic social teaching and economic life in the U.S. The format includes presentations, interactive sessions, small and large group activities.
Lunch

Afternoon:
Two to four 45-minute breakout sessions
with CCHD-funded groups and other
groups who describe their projects,
the project's impact on their lives and
on structures that affect them. The
diocesan team may include other
workshops that fit into diocesan goals
for this training.
Discussion on breakout sessions
Next steps, commitment to action
Evaluation
Closing prayer
Dismissal
