World Youth Day Madrid 2011 Opens Media Registration

WASHINGTON (June 2, 2011)—The accreditation process for media interested in covering World Youth Day (WYD) events in Madrid this summer (August 16-21) is now officially open. Requests for credentials will be accepted June 2- July 31.
WYD is the largest gathering of Catholic and other youth from around the world with Pope Benedict XVI. Over 400,000 young people have already registered to participate in WYD Madrid 2011. Among them there will be more than 25,000 young people and 60 bishops from the United States.

Madrid, June 2nd 2011.- Today saw the official opening for the accreditation process for media wanting to cover World Youth Day in August. The deadline for this process is July 31st.
The press accreditation form must be filled out on the webpage: http://www.madrid11.com/pressoffice/es/accreditations.Personal identification and contact details must be given and the required documents provided in the corresponding format. Application for accreditation does not necessarily mean that the organizing committee has accepted the application. The WYD Press Office will advise if the application has been accepted or not once the relevant checks have been carried out.
Journalists with confirmed accreditation can collect their pass at the International Press Center from August 15th, on presentation of a valid document of identity. Applicants will be advised about where and when to pick up the pass at a later date.
Press accreditation enables the holder to access exclusively the WYD International Press Center. Application forms for technical media and PIC coverage will be available shortly online.
In order to access the different events a specific press pass will be necessary. These special accreditation passes will be awarded by the organization which will bear in mind criteria of coverage and diffusion, and space available. The process of access to central events will be communicated through the Booking Office and access will be subject to compliance with the rules and regulations of the organizing committee.

In accordance with Organic Law 15/1999 of December 13th regarding the Protection of Personal Data, we inform you that the information provided will be stored in an automated file, in the Archbishopric, Plaza San Juan de la Cruz, 2B CP 28003, Madrid, and will be used exclusively in the arranging and concession of WYD 2011 press accreditation and to send information about WYD events and activities. This information will be sent to the relevant Official Spanish Institutions and Organizations for the verification of the said data.
